Tip Matching Fundraiser: Center for Farmworker Families
Giving back to our community is a vital part of what we believe in at Santa Cruz Naturals. Our tip matching program is focused on spreading awareness about organizations in our local communities that support individuals experiencing social disadvantages. To help their efforts, we are committed to matching every dollar and donating the funds to a new non-profit organization every month. This month, we‘re donating $1,000 to the Center for Farmworker Families.
What is the Center for Farmworker Families?
The Center for Farmworker Families is a non-profit organization based in Felton, California. Its mission is to promote awareness about the difficult life circumstances of binational farmworker families while proactively inspiring improvement in binational family life in both the United States and Mexico.
Dr. Ann López, the Executive Director of the Center for Farmworker Families, has a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from UCSC, where she studied the impact of the North American Free Trade Agreement on the farms of west-central Mexico. In March 2018, she was chosen for the 16th Annual César E. Chávez Community Award in Watsonville. In 2019, she was chosen as Woman of the Year by Mark Stone’s 29th District.
The Center for Farmworker Families focuses on the following four main components:
Promoting the educational advancement of farmworkers and their family members working in agriculture, as well as that of family members who are living on their farms of origin in the west-central Mexico countryside.
Supporting projects in both Mexico and California designed to sustainably promote financial and nutritional well-being and independence.
Examining the federal and state legal structures that govern the lives and well-being of farmworkers and promoting the changes necessary for improved livelihood and well-being.
Research and education.
